My name is Jyrah, and this is my journey’s story that led me into motherhood. This journey is about more than me having a baby; it’s about how I regained self-control to better myself for my little one. There was a time when I felt like I had lost my way. I remember crying, breaking down, and asking God for another chance—for forgiveness, for the strength to trust Him again, and for the courage to place my life back into His hands. I didn’t have all the answers, but I started realizing that I didn’t need to have everything figured out. I just needed to trust God enough to take the next step. I felt like my world had changed. Then came the pregnancy test. Before that moment, I had a dream about God trusting me to become a mother. That dream came rushing back to me all at once. When I saw the result, I cried, I panicked. I felt so many emotions and thoughts all at once. But underneath the fear was something stronger—faith. I thought, “If God trusts me to be a mother, then this is what I’m going to do.” Realization hit hard that becoming a mother wasn’t just happening to me; I was also finding my purpose, my reasons, and I was finally able to let out all the love I was holding in. From that day forward, I made a promise to myself: I would become the best version of myself for my child. I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy process, but I promised my unborn child that I would keep going no matter what. The first few days and weeks of my pregnancy were rough. I was dealing with so many emotions and thoughts, and at the time, I was homeless. I was searching for a way out because I wanted to give my daughter something I desperately wanted for her—a safe place to call home. I kept asking myself, “How am I going to do this? How am I going to give my baby the life she deserves?” But while I was searching for a way, God was already making one. After one night that changed my life, I met one of the most heartwarming people, Mrs. Denise. She introduced me to the Next Steps Program, and that introduction became the beginning of a new beginning and a fresh start for me. Eventually, I met my caseworkers, Ms. Marie, Ms. Mary, and Mrs. Kelly, who worked with the Next Steps Program. Mrs. Denise, Ms. Marie, Ms. Mary, and Mrs. Kelly didn’t just help me find resources. They helped me believe in life again. They helped me with housing and rental assistance, giving me the opportunity to rebuild my life and get back on my feet during my first year of transitioning into motherhood. Little by little, my life began to change. I had a place of my own. A home. I finally had somewhere I could look around and say, “This is ours.” I found a job and began becoming more financially stable. Over time, I found a place that gave me motivation and helped me reconnect with God while I was learning motherhood and discovering myself as a woman. One of those blessings was Options Now and The Repeat Boutique Thrift Store. It became more than just a job to me. It gave me an opportunity to work, grow, and become more independent. They also helped provide baby items for my daughter and me, which meant so much during a time when I was preparing for her arrival. They also provided classes I took that taught me about the journey from pregnancy through childbirth. I learned parenting skills, preparation for motherhood, and what it meant to become not only a great mother, but a stronger woman. Looking back, I realize that God didn’t change my life all at once. He changed it one person, one resource, one opportunity, and one step at a time. I started my pregnancy journey scared, homeless, overwhelmed, and uncertain about what my future would look like. But I was carrying my daughter. And with every step forward, I was building something for both of us. A home. A future. A family. A new beginning. A new version of me. When the time came to deliver my baby girl, I was scared. Really scared. After everything I had already experienced during my pregnancy, I knew childbirth would be another moment where I would have to trust God completely. I prayed for the best. I prayed for a safe delivery. And I prayed for a great support team to stand beside me through the pain and fear. Once again, God answered my prayer. I had my Godmother, the father of my daughter, and his mother by my side. Through the pain, they helped me emotionally and physically. They encouraged me, comforted me, and gave me strength when I felt like I had nothing left. I wasn’t walking into that delivery room alone. I had people beside me who cared about me, and I had my faith carrying me through it all. And then, after all the pain, fear, and everything my body had gone through, she arrived safely. My daughter. Zaryah Patricia Jade Moore. The moment I knew she was here, everything became worth it. All the tears. All the prayers. All the uncertainty. All the struggles. All the nights wondering how I was going to make it. She was here. And I knew that little heartbeat I had carried inside me was the same little life that had given me a reason to change mine. When I finally held her, I understood my journey in a completely different way. I wasn’t thinking about where I had been anymore. I was thinking about where we were going. I was a mother. And she was the little girl God had trusted me with. My daughter taught me that love can give you strength you didn’t know you had. She gave me another reason to keep going when I wanted to give up. She gave me a reason to believe that my past did not have to determine my future. Through every tear, every prayer, every struggle, every person who reached out their hand, and every door God opened, I began to understand something: Sometimes the fresh start you’ve been praying for doesn’t arrive looking like an answer. Sometimes, it arrives as a little heartbeat. Zaryah became my purpose, my reason, and a love I knew would always be unconditional. God trusted me with her. And I promised myself that I would spend my life loving her, protecting her, guiding her, and continuing to become the mother she deserves. This is my story. This is my journey into motherhood. This is the story of how I went from breaking down and asking God for another chance to holding the greatest blessing of my life. I didn’t just give birth to my daughter. In many ways, I gave birth to a new version of myself. And that is where my new beginning truly started.
